SPIRE President/CEO Dan Stoltz has been named a 2023 Notable Leader in Banking and Finance by Twin Cities Business Magazine (TCB). Twenty-one professionals throughout the Twin Cities received this recognition, which exemplifies exceptional accomplishments in their respective fields, impact on Minnesota communities, and leadership styles leading to success.
Stoltz took over the reins as CEO of SPIRE in 2010, amidst the great recession. At the time, the credit union was $563 million in assets, had lost $11.5 million, and was considered under-capitalized by the federal regulators. Throughout years of strategic, intentional, and disciplined leadership, Stoltz has built SPIRE into a position of strength, with over $2.1 billion in assets, 157,000 members, 22 branches, 370 employees, and is one of the fastest growing credit unions in the nation.
It’s more than Stoltz’s business acumen that garnered this recognition. His personal philosophy is “life is about giving, not getting.” He gives freely of his “time, talent, and treasures” (TTT) including hundreds of speaking engagements and community events each year. SPIRE has a strong reputation for community involvement and giving back. In 2022, SPIRE donated $1.28 million.
“I have worked alongside Dan for 22 years. He is dedicated to SPIRE members, employees, volunteers, and has a remarkable commitment of community,” says Thomas Heinzen, SPIRE Board Chair, “We are proud of him to receive this honor and be recognized within the Twin Cities business community!”
